New Year 2011: Be led by the Spirit!

1 January 2011 3 Comments

New Year is a great time to take stock of the past year and set goals for the next. As we explained in our “New Year’s Eve Ceremony” last year, my wife and I like to take some time at the end of each year to first reflect on the past year, asking ourselves what are we most thankful for and thanking God for what He has done, and then on the new year, asking ourselves what we would like to see happening and turning these aspirations into prayers.

As we do this, we ask the Lord for some scriptures that will be a guiding “light  to our path and a lamp to our feet” (Psalms 119:105) during the coming year, so we can claim them as promises in our prayers. Finally, we ask the Lord to also speak personally to us regarding these aspirations, and to give us some living Words From Jesus (WFJ) that will enlighten our path and be “a sure word of prophecy to take heed unto, as to a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawn and the day star arise in our hearts” (1 Peter 1:19).

We usually write these reflections of gratitude, hopes, prayers and promises in our journal, so we can refer to them during the new year and thank God when He answers our prayers. This exercise has become a guiding light for our Christian life, and each New Year’s Eve we like to repeat it and celebrate it, whether we are alone or with friends and family, in our New Year’s Eve Ceremony held around a large Candle, which represents Jesus …

These are the WFJ that I personally received yesterday, December 31, 2010:

(WFJ): “As you saw it happen during this past year 2010, and as I had promised you in the past, it’s not you building your house, but it’s Me that “I’m building My house” through you! If you take a careful look at everything that happened during this past year, you will see that the events that have catapulted you into this new season of fruitfulness for My kingdom were not designed and planned by you, but they happened without you having anything to do with them, except being led by My Spirit!

That’s what I want you to be: a tool that is not trying to push its own program, but letting My Spirit guide you each day towards the destiny that I have in store for you! This is My work, not yours, and it’s My Spirit that is leading you by opening and closing doors according to My will! A church led by the Spirit is what I want to build through you, but I will not do it through natural and traditional means! I will do it in new and unexpected ways!

Let Me continue to hold the helm of your life! Just make sure that your heart is in the right place, and that its thoughts and intents are aligned with My will! “The thoughts and intents of your heart” (Heb. 4:12) are like the rudder directing your life. As long as it is pointed in the right direction, the waves of the sea and surrounding winds will only push you in the same direction and you will reach your destination. The important thing is to stand firm in your values and beliefs, by leaning on Me, so that I can help you land on the right bank.

Turn your eyes towards the horizon before you, looking for the land that I promised you, as that’s where you will land this year! If you proceed with confidence and determination in the direction that I’m leading you, this year you will see more of your dreams fulfilled through new events that will push you towards the destiny that I have “before ordained” (Eph. 2:10) for you, the future of peace and prosperity that I have promised you! So, “forget the things which are behind, and reach forth to the things which are before” (Phil. 3:13), ever gazing towards the horizon in front of you …

As you lose sight of the past and it disappears behind you, you could feel the earth lacking under your feet, but “fear not, for I am with you: be not dismayed; for I am your God! I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness” (Isaiah 41:10)! “Lo, I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20), even until you reach your goals and see your dreams fulfilled! It will not be your work, but Mine! Let My Spirit guide you!

I want you to be known as those of My children that are “led by My Spirit” (Romans 8:14), for I want to do something new in My family on earth, that which is called My “Bride”! I want to gather around you believers that “do not lean on their own understanding, but in all their ways acknowledge Me, and let Me direct their paths” (Proverbs 3:5), as I lead them to the fulfillment of their destiny! You will be instrumental in making this happen!

Then My will and My Kingdom will begin to become visible “on earth, as it is in Heaven” (Matt. 6:10)! When I said that “upon this rock I will build My church” (Matt. 16:18), what did I meant? A church led by those who will lean to their own understanding? No! I said to Peter, “Blessed are you, Simon, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father which is in Heaven … on this rock I will build My church” (Matt. 16:17)!

The foundation on which to build My church is to lean on “My Father which is in Heaven”, not on the “flesh and blood” of human reasoning. A church led by the Spirit will “bring forth fruit that remains” (John 15:16) and will manifest the “fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” (Galatians 5:22).

A church led by the Spirit will not usurp My guidance, but will allow My Spirit to lead the “members of My body” (Ephes. 5:30) that I will gather together to “set the lonely in a family” (Psalm 68:6), made of “those who hear the word of God, and do it” (Luke 8:21). I promise you that those who left everything “for My sake and the gospel, will receive a hundredfold, now in this time: houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, lands … and in the world to come eternal life ” (Mark 10:29).

It’s in this life that you will see fulfilled your dream of a family of true believers who “do not lean on their own understanding, but acknowledge Me in all their ways, and let Me direct their paths” (Proverbs 3:5)! Be led by My Spirit! “

Happy New Year 2011!
