We all need “a help meet”! We all need someone who can make us feel loved, listened to and accepted just as we are, without having to wear a mask in order to be included in their midst! We all need a “family”, whether it be the one in which we were born, or one that we choose to live with those we love and wish to have with us for the rest of our life. No one is totally self-sufficient and capable of doing everything all alone! Even if we were, we would be miserable, because there wouldn’t be anyone to share the best of our life with!

The need for sharing with others is inborn within us! The first thing that a child does, after drawing something, is going to mom and dad to receive approval and be told: “BRAVO!” It’s spontaneous and natural! We all need to be told that we are doing the right thing… No point in pretending that we don’t, because it would be denying the obvious! Only pride prevents us from being like children and to accept ourselves as we are, as God created us!

Just as it is with our natural life, the one we have in common with all other human beings, it also applies to our spiritual life, the one we have in common with all other believers, those who like us are aware of the love that God has shown us through His Son Christ Jesus! We each need true loving friendship!

We shouldn’t think that we can be “independent Christians”! It would be as if one member of our body decided that he doesn’t need the rest of the body to survive! God’s Word says that “the body is not one member, but many”, and no one can tell others “I have no need of you “(1Cor 12:14-21)! This would be presumptuous and God warns us against this kind of pride, saying to each one of us “not to think of ourselves more highly than we ought to; but to think soberly, according as He has dealt to every man the measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another” (Romans 12:3-5).

We need each other! We need true Christian friendship! It’s not enough to once a week attend church and listen to a sermon that we often can’t even remember the next day! In order to grow spiritually healthy and be complete in our walk with Christ Jesus, we need a “spiritual family“, a body of believers made of “members who have the same care one for another. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it” (1Cor 12:25,26).

This is our vision of a church or “Christian family”: a community of hearts who truly care for each other, who can enjoy one another and be there for each other in time of need, walking and growing together in “the joy of the Lord, which is our strength” (Nehemiah 8:10)!

Often, when Christians fail to find a community where they feel loved and accepted for who they are, but instead they feel judged and criticized because of their differences, the human reaction is to separate and choose to follow an “independent” path. This, however, does not help our spiritual growth, because “as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abides in the vine”, but “it withers ” (John 15:4-6), we also cannot spiritually survive on our own!

We need to stay in the vine, so that, following the “truth in love, we may grow up in all things into Him who is the head, even Christ; from whom all the body fitly framed and knit together through that which every joint supplies, according to the working in the measure of every part, makes the increase of the body unto the building up of itself in love” (Eph. 4:15,16).

It is not God’s will that we are alone! On the contrary, “God sets the solitary in families, and He brings out the prisoners into prosperity” (Psalm 68:6)!

As the time was approaching for Moses to be taken up into Heaven, the Lord instructed him to: “Charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land”! (Deut. 3:28)

As we allow ourselves to be channels of encouragement for our brothers and sisters, we might not know it, but we could be strengthening and charging new “modern-day Joshua’s” to go before their people and cause them to inherit God’s promised land!

“I don’t think there’s anything more soul destroying than ‘feeling’ alone and unloved. This was the story for me after a couple of months of living in what people call the ‘eternal city’. Many experiences moved me from being a ‘somebody’ in London to a ‘nobody’ in Italy … struggling with the language, being bullied back in a classroom, broken promises, spending beyond my means, gaining weight, being attacked by killer mosquito’s, knocked down by the heat, defeated by a lack of friends and thrown into confusion by the chaos that is Rome.

My confidence and self esteem took a serious beating and it was into this state of utter brokenness, of feeling completely vulnerable and exposed, that God introduced me to Patrizia … on a train station enroute to Viterbo. Surprisingly we were two of a handful of passengers who had to wait over an hour for another train to take us home. Not surprisingly I discovered that she had spent most of her life as a Christian Missionary in places like Bulgaria, Bangladesh and India. I say not surprisingly because, on reflection afterwards, I remembered having pleaded with God four years earlier to take me to a place where the language was foreign and I had no friends, no possessions, no family and no distractions … and in that moment, to reveal to my heart what it was He was calling me to do with my life. Mission and the conversion of souls have resonated in me ever since.

Patrizia, and her husband Renato, became the physical manifestations of Jesus to me, demonstrating in a visible and remarkably inspiring way, that the sacrificial love God calls us to can actually be lived and that dying to self can bear rich fruit …

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me” (Matthew 25:35-37).

“Yesterday afternoon, Renato and I had our our weekly coaching call over the Internet. Wow!!! While I’m supposedly the one doing the coaching, it seems I’m the one receiving the most coaching as I learn so many valuable life lessons. I’m coming to appreciate the tremendous UNITY (oneness) that Renato and his wife Patrizia enjoy. Those are the kinds of people I want to hang around.

The writing continued: “”How true! God only uses broken men and women, no others will do! Others are too self-confident in their own strength! God has to break them, melt them and mold them again in the hands of the Potter to make them better vessels! But He won’t force it! The breaking depends upon you, your yieldingness and willingness to be made willing, total humility, which is synonymous with total love, so you’re willing to go anywhere, anytime, and do anything, for anybody, and be nobody, to please Him and help others!”

These words inspired me to give my entire life in full time service to the Lord and others, until about 32 years later He reminded me of them and warned me that He was going to have to break me and remake me into “another vessel” (Jeremiah 18:4), so that I could be fit for the Master’s use and ready for the new ministry that He was going to assign me. To impress upon me what He was about to do in my life, He then led me to read the following:

The Story of Bamboo …

Once upon a time lay a beautiful garden. And there in the cool of the day was the Master of the garden, who went for a walk. Of all the dwellers of the garden, the most beautiful and beloved was a gracious Bamboo. Year after year Bamboo grew yet more beautiful and he was conscious of his Master’s love and watchful delight. Yet he was modest and gentle. Often when Wind came to revel in the garden, Bamboo would throw aside his dignity and dance merrily, tossing and swaying and leaping and bowing in joyous abandon. He would lead the great dance of the garden which most delighted his Master’s heart.

One day the Master drew near to contemplate his beloved Bamboo. With eyes of curious expectancy, Bamboo bowed his great head to the ground in loving greeting.

The Master spoke: “Bamboo, Bamboo, I would use you.”
Bamboo said, “Master, I am ready, use me as you want!”
“Bamboo,” the Master’s voice was grave, “I would be obliged to take you and cut you down.”

A trembling of horror shook Bamboo. “Cut … me … down? Me, whom You, Master, have made beautiful in Your garden? To cut me down? Ah, not that! Not that! Use me for Your joy, O Master, but cut me not down!”
“Beloved Bamboo,” the Master’s voice grew graver still, “if I don’t cut you down, I cannot use you.”

The garden grew still. Wind held his breath. Bamboo slowly bent his proud head. There came a whisper.
Bamboo replied, “Master, if You cannot use me unless You cut me down, then do Your will and cut!”

“Bamboo, beloved Bamboo, I would cut your leaves and branches from you also.”
“Master, Master, spare me! Cut me down and lay my beauty in the dust, but would You take from me my leaves and branches also?”

“Bamboo, alas! If I do not cut them away, I cannot use you.” The Sun hid his face. A listening butterfly glided fearfully away. Bamboo shivered in terrible expectancy, whispering low, “Master, cut away.”

“Bamboo, Bamboo, I would divide you in two and cut out your heart, for if I do not cut so, I cannot use you.”
“Master, Master, then cut and divide.”

So did the Master of the garden took Bamboo and cut him down and hacked off his branches and stripped off his leaves and divided him in two and cut out his heart.

Lifting him gently, he carried him to where there was a spring of fresh, sparkling water in the midst of Master’s dry fields. Putting down one end of Bamboo in the spring, and the other into the water channel in his field, the Master laid down gently his beloved Bamboo.

The spring sang “welcome”! The clear sparkling water raced joyously down the channel of Bamboo’s torn body into the waiting fields.
Then the rice was planted and the days went by. The shoots grew. The harvest came. In that day was Bamboo, once so glorious in his stately beauty, yet now more glorious in his brokenness and humility.

For in his beauty he was life abundant.
But in his brokenness he became a channel of abundant life to his Master’s world!

“He said unto them, ‘Whoever will come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever will save his life shall lose it; but whoever shall lose his life for My sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.” (Mark 8:34,35).

“Verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it stays alone: but if it die, it brings forth much fruit.” (John 12:24)

… my life!

Needless to say, this has been the story of my life, especially in these last three years… When I thought that I was doing such a great job for Him, the Lord took me aside to a lonely place, where He had to break me and remake me into a new vessel. A little over a year ago, I suffered two heart attacks, and my heart literally stopped for a few minutes. When I was brought back to life, I saw the need of the “broken hearts”!

While laying there, in “intensive care”, I saw the need of not only the other patients that were in the Cardiologycal Hospital with me, but also the need of the nurses, and of the doctors! The Lord showed me that the whole world is full of hearts that are broken, and that this was going to be my new ministry: “Healing Broken Hearts“!

I now rejoice and am exceeding glad, “for He that is mighty has done to me great things; and holy is His Name” (Luke 1:49).

Our primary purpose in life is to fulfill God’s two greatest commandments, which Jesus said are: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second (commandment) is like unto it, love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-39)

We express our love for God through our praises, our prayers, our faithful meditation and study of His Word, our listening to His voice and putting into practice all that He personally speaks to our hearts. As we draw near to God, He draws near to us and He fills our hearts with His divine love, so that we can overflow with it upon others.

We show love to our neighbors (anyone God leads across our path) by reaching out to them and doing what we can to make sure that their needs are met. If they are not, then we ask ourselves what would Jesus do to help them, and try to act likewise.

Jesus gave us a very important key to our happiness when He explained that we won’t live by food alone, “but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God”! (Matthew 4:4).

Spiritual words of life are just as essential as physical food for the total wellness of the human being, which is made not only of “body”, but also of “soul and spirit” (1 Thess. 5:23), so we consider the CARE OF PEOPLE’S SOULS OUR MOST IMPORTANT MISSION. Even those who have all of their physical needs well taken care of, can often be spiritually impoverished–sometimes even more than those materially less fortunate.

Many need help to overcome bitterness, resentment, the loss of dear ones, mental or emotional abuse, fear of the future, anxiety, or souls stifled and left empty by materialism and plenty. Our goal is to help people grow spiritually, by establishing a personal and intimate relationship with Jesus, and we try to reassure them that God loves them and is personally interested in helping them in whatever area they have need. We actively seek out those who are spiritually destitute, and we reach out to everyone, regardless of race, religion, culture or social status, fully convinced that God’s love is the answer to all of man’s problems.
